The department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow introduced laboratory examinations in 2001 to avoid the problems of plagiarism associated with continually assessed exercises, and to separate the phases of skill acquisition and assessment. The document below is the poster shown at the LTSN-ICS conference in Galway in August 2003. It describes the method of assessment used, the issues involved and gives a brief evaluation of this method. In addition, a paper is in preparation.
